Emergency Exit has evolved from a simple gag strip into a complex, plot driven story while still keeping the basic punch-line formula. It can be a bit tough for some people to get through the first few storylines, but they're good for establishing the main characters before the real fun starts.

The protagonists of our story are a group of college-age kids all living in the same, abnormal and unnamed, apartment building. They tend to have strange backgrounds, odd personalities, or supernatural powers. More likely all the above. The group, referred to often as the "apartment kids", often have to travel to other realities, or have people from other realities come to them. As a sub plot they collect items called artifacts by command of their landlord, though it is also been called The Puzzle.  The kids as of yet know not what they do when they are all together. They have to deal with issues in their own world as well, can be as basic as a lovers quarrel or how to hide your wings at school. Our protagonists have a set of self-proclaimed villains who love to meddle with their affairs, including trying to collect the artifacts to compete. They're more interested in appearing villainy than actually being villainy most of the time.

There are several plots going on at any given time in EE, it can be tricky to keep up with but everything links together bit by bit. It is primarily a comedy, with adventure and many sub genres. It can get serous and pretty violent at times, so it covers all ground, be warned.

EE originally started back in 2002, but was stopped and then rebooted in 2003, and has been running successfully ever since with nearly 1000 pages. If you would like to see what I still have of the first run, go here.
